1850 - 1920

The arrival of the art nouveau period gave birth to an “era of images.” This was largely due to new and improved printing methods — lithography, in particular — coupled with the emergence of the “working class” and the ensuing “consumerist” boom. From books and billboards to menu cards and fans, suddenly images were ubiquitous — a part of everyday life These were times that saw the rise in popularity of blithe illustrators such as Grasset, Mucha, Orazi and a wealth of other poster artists and decorators. Any fan of art nouveau will revel in this expo which showcases the golden age of early advertising.
