Concerts Well, the first signs of spring certainly seem to have brought the bands out of hiding... A feast of acts from all over the globe will be playing Paris this month. After upsetting the Colombian government last year with their release "100% Columbian" (they were not referring to coffee), the Fun Lovin' Criminals from the US bring their own variety of line dancing to Ris-Orangis at Le Plan April 2. Other gigs worth mentioning: Silverchair, Nirvana-esque Aussie rock, at l'Olympia on Apr 12. The Cranberries proving there's more to Ireland than Riverdance at the Zénith on Apr 14. And... Britain's Orbital and Elliot Smith hit Elysée-Montmartre Apr 14 and 19 respectively, followed by The Cardigans, the Swedish popsters, who have recently discovered the dark side of pop. (Apr 24.) CD Circuit Underworld's "Beaucoup Fish" has arrived to critical acclaim. The trio from London is famous in France for the one that went "lager, lager, lager" in the film "Trainspotting," the same snippet used in a French ad for shaving foam! This is the group's third album and definitely is not pub techno. They have reinvented themselves with an optimistic CD and are content to leave the euphoria of the dance scene to French disco and Norman Cook. Other upcoming notables include Aphex Twin's new release on April 19 and "Snatch" by Howie B, fresh from collaborations with Sly & Robbie and opening for U2 on their tour. Out & About It might be a bit optimistic to try and find a bar with a large terrace, no traffic and great music but you need look no further than Café du Trésor, (5, rue du Trésor, 4e, M° St-Paul.) This month sees a host of DJs playing most nights including DJ Deep, Rork and Patrick Vidal. Also look out for the bar's sixth birthday party on April 31. If you're stuck between République and Bastille, check out Bar Zéro Zéro, (89, rue Amélot, 11e, M° St-Sébastien Froissart) which offers a mix of kitsch decor and pumping beats in a small but friendly space. |
