Out & About Paris by night has a lot more to offer than an evening at the local bistro or bar; start digging the surface and many alternatives can be found. Respect night at the Queen, 102, av des Champs-Elysées, Metro Franklin D. Roosevelt, 8eis still going strong every Wednesday and as always, is free to all and to the pocket. But if you haven't discovered the Harlem Hotel night yet, which takes over Café Oz, 18, rue St-Denis, 1eron Thursday, you're missing out. Complete with Midnight Cowboy party scene decor and a mix of French and International DJs, this month sees the decks being used and abused by the likes of Le Tone, DJ Jeff K and resident DJ Ivan. Also check out the following: La Fabrique , 53, rue du faubourg, St-Antoine, 11e, Metro Bastille. Café du Trésor , 5, rue du Trésor, 4e, Metro St-Paul. What's Up bar , 15, rue Daval, 11e, Metro Bastille. Concerts Concerts are a bit thin on the ground this month, but the Manic Street Preachers at the Elysée-Montmartre March 28(with lyrics such as "we don't talk about love, we only want to get drunk") should be good value for the money, and you never know Richey just might re-appear. Other gigs worth mentioning: Jungle Funk , Mar 5, New Morning, 7-9, rue des Petites Ecuries, 10e, Metro Château d'Eau. Cake , Mar 6, Elysée-Montmartre, 72, bd Rochechouart, 18e, Metro Anvers. Robbie Williams (for the girlies), Mar 25, Zenith, 211, av Jean Jaurès, 19e, Metro Porte de Pantin. Nada Surf, Mar 27, Le Plan, rue Rory Gallagher, Ris-Orangis. Creed , Mar 31, Elysée-Montmartre, 72, bd Rochechouart, 18e , Metro Anvers. CD Circuit With Radiohead still playing in the studio and Leftfield putting back the release date of their much anticipated follow up to "Leftism" released way back in '95, this year has not produced a multitude of great new albums, yet, but things are looking up with imminent releases from Underworld, Mogwai and Beck. Liam Howlett's (the brains behind The Prodigy) first solo album "Dirt Chamber" is highly recommended, which sees Howlett going back to where he started from-on the mixing decks. In his own words, this is how he sees the album: "Just me on the decks." Fair enough. |
