THE WINE CELLAR Picture

’T
his the season of the grape starring Beaujolais Nouveau and les vins primeurs. There are lots of sites to help quench your thirst. From virtual stores and tour operators to newsletters and journals, let your passion for the wine take you online.

http://www.75cl.com
Of all of the sites I visited on the Web, this is perhaps one of the best designed wine shops. Not only can you purchase wine (and in some cases for a discount), but there is lots of information to help you understand the art of the grape. Click on “Dégustation” and you’ll find illustrations showing what to do and look for at a wine tasting. There are guides explaining how to store wine, the best “millésimes” for your favorite vino, as well as news on regional wines. Register for up-to-date information or send in specific questions you have. And don’t miss their “wine of the week.” As we go to press, a 1995 Château Côte Puyblanquet Saint-Emilion was featured for 49F instead of 59F.

http://www.reedbooks.co.uk
Mitchell Beazley, a leading publisher of wine books in the UK, launched this site for lovers of good wine. Here you can read book excerpts and learn all about the world wine from ancient civilizations to its evolution in modern times. There’s also a specialized calendar of events, a book guide and an œnology forum.

http://smartwine.com
“Will there be an Amazon.com of wine?” is one of the topics you’re most likely to discover on Smartwine.com’s site. Geared for both professionals and consumers, there’s wine news, features and reviews as well as a winery search to help you reach your favorite company.

http://www.wine-lovers-page.com
Everything you’ve always wanted to know about wine and more. Robin Garr’s Wine Lover’s Page features news releases from industry sources and reports on the latest tastings, as well as an encyclopedia to help you decipher all the œnological jargon. And... even wine country wallpaper you can download for your desktop.
