Chanson, tap dance, joie de vivre with a Frenchy jazzy cabaret on a barge on the Seine in central Paris? Sounds good to us! Check out the “Parisian Time Step” show–July 28 and August 04, 2024– from tap dancer Ruby Boukabou and singer/ dancer Wendy Lee Taylor (Lido de Paris) with piano by Philippe Petit and Cédric Caullaud on double bass. The show is a fun celebration of Paris, music and tap dance where the audience time travels back to the Belle Epoque with its cheeky polkas; 1930s music halls and smokey 1940s-50s Saint Germain jazz bars.
“We wanted to create a show that mixes our passions for Paris with French music, jazz, tap dance and fun theatrics,” says Boukabou, who first came to Paris from Sydney to finish a Masters in Theatre and fell in love with the city. “I have recently been doing French themed cabarets in Australia and thought ‘why not do a new show back in Paris?’ “It was also a great excuse to work again with my fellow Australian/ Parisian Wendy [Lee Taylor]… and of course it’s a thrill to have such great musicians on board – literally!” she laughs. The cabaret is performed on a barge (La Péniche Marcounet) located on the Seine between Pont Marie and the Pont Louis-Philippe.
“It’s a chance to play some of my favourite songs about Paris and share some anecdotes about the people—such as Edith Piaf, Mistinguett, Josephine Baker, Charles Trenet— who wrote and sang them.
La Péniche Marcounet is parked on the quai de l’hôtel de ville, 75004 Paris. Tickets €20. Food & drinks available. Doors 7pm, show 8pm. Bookings recommended. https://www.peniche-marcounet.fr/event/parisian-time-step/
